Connecting Slack
Receive daily cost reports directly in your Slack workspace. StackSpend sends a morning summary so your team stays informed without logging into the dashboard.
Before you start
- You need to be an admin or owner of your StackSpend organisation.
- You need permission to install apps in your Slack workspace (or can request approval from a workspace admin).
- At least one provider should be connected so there is cost data to report.
Open the Slack integration
Navigate to Settings → Integrations in your StackSpend dashboard. You'll see the Slack integration card. Click Connect to Slack.
Authorise the app
You'll be redirected to Slack's OAuth page. Review the permissions — StackSpend requests only the ability to post messages to a channel you choose. Click Allow.
If your workspace requires admin approval for new apps, submit the request and return to this step once approved.
Choose your channel
After authorisation, select the Slack channel where you want daily reports delivered. This can be any public or private channel the app has been invited to.
We recommend creating a dedicated channel like #costs or #cloud-spend to keep reports organised.
Configure report timing
By default, reports are sent at 9:00 AM in your organisation's timezone. You can adjust this in Settings → Daily Report.
You can also choose which days to receive reports (weekdays only, every day, or custom).
Send a test message
Click Send Test to verify the connection. A sample cost report will appear in your chosen channel. If you don't see it, check that the StackSpend app has been invited to the channel.
What you'll receive
Each daily report includes:
- Status indicator — green (on track), amber (attention), or red (action needed) based on your budget thresholds.
- Total spend — yesterday's cost across all connected providers.
- Change from previous day — how yesterday compares to the day before.
- Top cost drivers — the services contributing most to spend.
